Principal Mechatronics Engineer - Surgical Robotics

Must Have – Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  

Nice to Have:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Advanced Degree with a specialization in robotics, system dynamics and control or similar strongly preferred)
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience involving robotics or electromechanical systems development. Experience in medical device industry strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated track record of serving as a technical lead/manager of small engineering teams
• Expertise in electro-mechanical system design and development encompassing mechanical design, actuators and sensors, microcontrollers, digital communications, power electronics and closed-loop control implementation
• Strong foundation in engineering theory and analysis including system dynamics and control theory
• Hands-on ability to set up test instrumentation including specification of sensors and data acquisition instrumentation to log parameters such as position/angle, force/torque, temperature etc.
• Ability to analyze electro-mechanical issues by reviewing mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and SW algorithms and devising tests to establish root-cause
• Understanding of manufacturing tolerances and specified performance variability for mechanical and electrical components
• Familiarity with various types of motors: brushless servo, brushed servo, stepper etc.
• Familiarity with a range of sensors including encoders, proximity, temperature etc.Experience implementing automation and controls in software and firmware strongly preferred
• Experience implementing and debugging serial communication preferred: Ethernet, SPI, I2C, RS-422 etc.
• Familiarity with electrical safety compliance and testing, including IEC 60601
• Experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle including feasibility, design, V&V and transfer to production
• Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team
  

Working Conditions: 

Standard Office setting in the Seaport District of Boston, MA.  Some limited travel may be required.
