As an integrated OU, SH&A is made up of the five businesses, including TAVI, Congenital, Aortic, Mitral and Tricuspid. Individually, these businesses are positioned to drive growth, margin expansion, and free-cash flow generation for MDT overall. This IOU will create incremental revenue and accretive growth today and into the future with SH being the key growth driver for the IOU. Today, SH generates ~$1.8B (with $830M in just the US), ~58% Operating Margins and is the #2 position with TAVR market share. By FY30 it is expected that SH TAVR market will become $11.5B (with US representing $5.2B and 9% FY19-FY30 Market CAGR), with MDT SH TAVR revenue being $4.1B. Collectively, SH&A will grow to $5.9B in revenue by FY30, representing double digit growth.
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for strategic growth and success of new product development activities overseeing the definition, development, qualification and release of new and next generation SH&A products into the market. Businesses/therapies include: Structural Heart and Aortic.
- Drive speed of innovation, including product enhancements, next generation, as well as disruptive technologies .
- Deliver on Medtronic Enterprise Excellence Initiatives through the achievement of on-time/on-budget delivery of new products: set and enable R&D NPD business objectives, drive innovation, and accelerate product introduction and oversee the RPM organization.
- Serve as a key member of the SH&A LT, defining and owning solutions to business challenges and opportunities.
- Interact frequently with GMs, NPD LT Coalition, customers and KOLs in the development of product roadmaps and in the definition of research + technology investments.
- Drive alignment across the Portfolio and MDT to showcase the full value proposition of the SH&A Product Portfolio and Technology Roadmap.
- Build and develop an R&D functional organization that drives product Ideation through Market Release for all therapies and product lines in the SH&A Operating Unit. Focus on
- Talent and capability development
- Balance of external partnerships with organic abilities
- Organizational health, culture, workforce planning, and employee experience
- Adoption of DRM, Agile, DevOps, etc to continuously improve development capabilities.
- Talent and capability development
- Direct responsibility of therapy Research and Technology, system design and test, human factors engineering, IP, AI development, and PMO.
Measures of Success:
- Build and Deploy R&D Structure while accelerating the performance of the organization
- Full deployment of MDT R&D processes of Phase 0-5 (e.g. DRM, PDP, AI, FEA, Testing & Modeling) and performance v. quality metrics
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in scientific/technical field required; (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum 18 years prior experience in regulatory affairs, clinical, quality and/or product development
- With Masters or other advanced degree, minimum 15 years prior experience in regulatory affairs, clinical, quality and/or product development
- Minimum of 15 years of managerial experience in medical devices
Critical Leadership Differentiators:
- Experience optimizing Structural Heart, Mitral Tricuspid and Aortic innovation and product development execution through process, metrics and best practice implementation
- Strategic thinker, strong business acumen, thinks broadly (beyond R&D), experience partnering with other business and functional leaders to drive portfolio optimization
- Highly influential leader who can navigate the matrix. Demonstrated ability to effectively work across the matrix and to collaborate and influence cross functionally.
- Experience optimizing organizations through change management and organization design. Ability to set visionary direction for R&D team.
- Proven Engineering/Technology/R&D leadership, both program and function
- Strong track record of execution and respect for project governance and delivery of predictability
- Skilled communication and demonstrated ability to create followership

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
Executive Level Roles: Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
