This role in the Operations Innovation - Manufacturing Technology group researches and develops new manufacturing technologies to be utilized across Medtronic. The technologies developed will enable the launch of new medical devices in addition to delivering operational goals on existing products through strong partnerships with our R&D and device facilities.
In this role, you will analyze existing medical device processes/products for improvement opportunities, conduct research on novel and traditional manufacturing solutions, perform experimentation to evaluate feasibility of available options, document findings, and transfer this information to relevant areas of Medtronic.
Primary responsibilities for this technically curious role include serving as technical lead on manufacturing technology feasibility projects and conducting research on technology and process trends to identify relevant technologies to be utilized in Medtronic’s manufacturing environments. This position requires collaboration across Manufacturing, Quality, Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, external technology partners, and other key functions to achieve business deliverables.

A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Design manufacturing feasibility studies, execute required experimentation, analyze the data, and transfer to prospective internal customers for implementation
Manage project schedules, budgets, and communicate project status to stakeholders
Conduct technology scouting research to evaluate future project opportunities
Support device prototype lab in R&D activities
Support Capital Equipment purchasing, installation, and qualification activities for the device prototype laboratory
Design, develop, analyze, troubleshoot and provide technical skills during research and/or product development.
Design studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise
May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials
Translate research discoveries into usable and marketable products
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
· Degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related technical field
· Strong engineering technical background: ability to effectively interact with cross-functional technical disciplines, solve challenging electrical/mechanical problems, and conduct industrial research
· Manufacturing Engineering experience
· Design/R&D Engineering experience
· Project Management experience
· Six Sigma or equivalent exposure and experience with six-sigma techniques
· Hands-on experience working with industrial equipment
· Experience with performing market research, competitive benchmarking, and technology scouting
· Experience with implantable device technology products and their respective processing and associated technologies
· Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in an ambiguous environment
· Experience with failure analysis, process improvements, and change management
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Strong problem-solving capabilities
· Ability to travel occasionally domestically and internationally
