You will join and manage a team of electrical and mechanical engineers, responsible for driving design ownership and integrity for our commercial Hardware Business, in our Advanced Surgical Technology (AST) product lines under the Surgical innovations, within the Medtronic umbrella. This role will work cross-functional and communicate with others for feedback and decision making to ensure safe and efficiency across our Platform.

A Day in the Life

As the Sr. Engineering Manager for the Hardware group, you will be part of the AST-Released Product Engineering (RPE) group. You will focus on managing and coordinate both Electrical & Mechanical engineers, and their activities to attain business goals consistent with cost, high quality, reliability and delivery requirements. Interacts with other functions within Supply Chain, R&D, Commercial, Quality and Regulatory across the organization to improve existing processes for new and mature products.

Key Responsibilities: 

·       Lead and manage a team of electronics engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, objectives, and timelines.

·       Drive the development of electronic systems and components for medical devices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.

·       Oversee the design and validation of analog and digital circuits, PCB layouts.

·       Manage the selection and qualification of electronic components and suppliers, ensuring product reliability and quality.

·       Coordinate with internal partners on embedded software/firmware.

·       Coordinate with external partners and vendors to support product development activities, including prototype fabrication, testing, and manufacturing scale-up.

·       Support and collaborate with Operations and contract manufacturers.

·       Establish and maintain processes and documentation to support regulatory submissions, including design history files (DHF) and risk management files (RMF).

·       Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in electronics engineering and medical devices, providing strategic guidance and recommendations to senior management.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with design and development of capital medical devices.
  • Prior history of product development from concept through launch and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Significant history with regulatory needs and standards, in particular IEC 60601-1 series (IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-1-8, IEC 60601-2-2).
  • Experience in electrical safety and EMC / ESD testing and design techniques.
  • Digital and analog hardware design: Prior experience with custom digital, analog, and power electronics circuit design, as well as off-the shelf equipment, with high-voltage and high-current power systems.
  • Experience with network and communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with BIOS / UEFI and QNX / Linux operating systems on single board computers, FPGAs and embedded processors.
  • High understanding in video and vision processing.
  • Experience with implementing Product Security and Cybersecurity.
  • Seasoned user of electronic design, analysis and library tools, specifically Cadence OrCAD, Cadence Allegro, HyperLynx.
  • Experience with Six Sigma/DRM and design for cost.
  • Background and involvement in performing product risk management (ISO 14971)
  • Experience in FDA regulated product delivery, including solid working knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards for medical devices (e.g. FDA QSR, ISO 13485).
  • Hands-on mentality.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.​
