As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing key technical expertise and some leadership within the Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Engineering organization. This role is focused on released product engineering, development, and continuous improvement related to the HeartWare™ HVAD™ System (HeartWare Ventricular Assist Device). 

The Mechanical Circulatory Support Operating Unit is responsible for Medtronic’s heart pump program. Called the HeartWare™ HVAD™ System, this business provides a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) that helps patients’ hearts pump and increases the amount of blood that circulates through their bodies. The HVAD System features the world's smallest, commercially available, centrifugal flow pump. 

This position can be in either Mounds View, MN or Miami Lakes, FL, and is within the Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) operating unit and requires on-site presence four days a week minimum, with additional on-site presence as required.

A Day in the Life 

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Principal Electrical Design Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

·       Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products, hardware, and electromechanical components and facilitate manufacturing and field service operations.

·       Lead as SME investigations of root causes for a wide range of issues, including but not limited to aspects of electrical, mechanical, software/firmware, systems, user-related, or manufacturing. 

·       Create or review verification and validation plans/protocols, test method validations, and reports.  

·       Assess supplier driven changes, component changes, and component obsolescence for potential impact to products. 

·       Deliver on quality or CAPA initiatives using technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and intelligent risk skills. 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements 

 

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME 

·       Bachelor’s degree in electrical or biomedical engineering, science, or related technical discipline

·       Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in product development of medical devices or advanced degree in electrical or biomedical engineering, science, or technical field with 8+ years of relevant work experience

Nice to Have 

·       10+ years of engineering experience within the medical device industry

·       Advanced understanding of FDA design controls, quality system regulations, failure investigation process and methodologies

·       PC application skills: MS Project, EXCEL, Word, Minitab, Agile PLM

·       Advanced understanding of Risk Management Process

·       Advanced understanding of Corrective Action and Prevent Action (CAPA) process

·       Advanced understanding of Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) and Design-for-Assembly (DFA)

·       Project management and organizational skills

·       Strong written and oral communication skills (timely, clear, concise, accurate, conclusive, influential, targeted to audience)

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.  

Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
