This position has the responsibility for applying and coaching the use of Design | Reliability | Manufacturability (DRM) methodologies and other best practices related to SW Development Excellence across the Medtronic product development community. In this role, you will support Medtronic’s Enterprise-wide SW Development Excellence strategy and tactics (including DRM) to achieve desired business results.  You’ll be responsible for global implementation across all locations of Product Development within Medtronic.   A key focus area of this position will be to implement the DRM for Software (SW) and SW Development Excellence strategy at the Enterprise level and assure frameworks, guidance and processes are in place to enable the execution of that strategy.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
• Contribute to DRM for SW and SW Development Excellence program strategy in partnership with the R&D Council, DRM Council and associated Steering Teams to enable the assessment of progress and effectiveness of the DRM and SW Development Excellence initiative across MDT.
• Implement the tactics around DRM for SW, SW Development Excellence at the enterprise level and work to assure successful integration with OU/Group level metrics across MDT.
• Provide technical coaching for the application of DRM and SW Development best practices across MDT businesses, including OU coach mentoring/development
• Assist in the development of and facilitation of training (including DRM) for all levels of the organization (New Employees, GBs, BBs, Management), including train-the-trainer
• Assist in the development and improvements of SW specific elements of Project and Organizational Assessments.
• Assist in the development and deployment of SW specific predictive outcome metrics.  
• Assist in the tracking and reporting of SW specific metrics both during product development and after launch (post-market) monitoring for effectiveness of the approach.

ADDITIONAL ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct and participate in SW Assessments (including DRM) across global R&D locations to enable measurement of DRM maturity growth across the business
• Drive best practice sharing of SW Development methods (including DRM) across MDT businesses and functions
• Facilitate application and use of SW development tools (including DRM) to make breakthrough improvements in the design, reliability and maintainability of products that include Software
• Coach DRM Black Belt and Green Belt candidates towards successful applications of the methods and successful certification
• Coach and mentor product development teams and individuals in the use of DRM methods & tools 
• Enhance the product development lifecycle within R&D by applying industry best practices, processes and metrics
• Recommend improvements to work processes and procedures, design guidelines, systems models, interfaces, systems architectures, and protocols,
• All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System
• Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations
• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)
• Bachelor’s degree
• 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree
NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)
• Strongly Preferred:
o Previous Medtronic experience
o Certified Green Belt in DRM for Software or experience teaching portions of DRM for SW curriculum
o New product development experience, which includes a minimum of 2+ years of demonstrated coaching and/or teaching success
• Advanced degree in a software related discipline
• Past engineering experience in medical device product development in a variety of applications of SW (embedded, cloud-based applications, standalone SW applications, etc)
• Familiarity with FDA and ISO standards around SW including cybersecurity
• Recognition as a Subject Matter Expert in the field of SW Development
• Black Belt or Master Black Belt – Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) / DRM with SW focus
• Demonstrated experience working in a Research and Development organization as a change agent implementing DRM / DFSS methods and strategies resulting in sustained change
• Experience in the application of analytical / statistical methods for improvements in product performance
• Experience and ability to train, lead, mentor, coach and inspire individuals and teams to significantly impact the business
• Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to interface at all levels in the organization.
• Ability to work with others and accomplish goals working within a team
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Experience as a creative problem solver
• Comfort in dealing with ambiguity
• Confidence in applying engineering experience to make pragmatic choices about Software/Firmware design, architecture, and implementation

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
