A Day in the Life

We are looking for a Principal Health Policy Analyst to join our Surgical Health Economics, Policy, and Reimbursement (HEPR) team.  The primary objective of this role is manage the CMS policy cycle and identify areas of interest for the Surgical portfolio of procedures and products. The individual acts as a partner to the cross-functional and functional teams and is key to market access and removal of barriers to enable market access.

To be successful, this role will develop a deep understanding of company products and therapies, health and payment policies and structures, and the types of evidence that are appropriate for supporting business priorities in the US. This position requires the ability to think quickly, creatively, and strategically to craft innovative reimbursement & health policy and economic solutions in a rapidly changing and diverse business environment. This role will work closely with the U.S. HEPR team, as well as external parties in the execution of strategic programs.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Leads and manages Surgical and HEPR strategies and response to major CMS coverage and payment rules.
  • Maintains relationships with CMS personnel and HEPR Policy leadership and ensures appropriate Surgical representation at significant meetings during the policy cycle.
  • Identifies priority health policy issues for company and develops policy solutions to advantage medical technology and therapies specifically.
  • Works collaboratively with Government Affairs Organizations to develop strategy to enact priority legislative and policy changes relating to coverage, coding, and payment of medical technology.
  • Leads either directly or indirectly appropriate associations/coalitions to influence the health care environment for medical technology in partnerships with other stakeholders.
  • Provides strategic consulting to businesses on priority product-specific coverage, coding and payment issues.
  • Stays actively informed on reimbursement trends and payment policy changes to proactively identify opportunities & risks to market entry, and to inform and evolve reimbursement strategy.
  • Functions independently in a matrixed, complex organization with limited daily supervision to assess, recommend, and implement solutions in fast-moving situations of varying levels of ambiguity.
  • Partners with cross-functional core teams to implement reimbursement programs that are integrated into the overall business strategy.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have
  • Advanced degree in health policy, health services research, economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, public administration, clinical research, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years device or diagnostics industry clinical trial experience, or payer/health system healthcare economics and reimbursement
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of global healthcare reimbursement systems and mechanisms, with an emphasis on recent experience with Japan, and regulations related to medical technology products.
  • Familiar with U.S. medical device reimbursement, including U.S. healthcare coding and payment systems
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team to proactively solve problems and drive work forward, performing with limited oversight and supervision.
  • Demonstrated influence management skills and ability to work effectively in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across cultures in a global organization
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically apply technical knowledge to a variety of business situations and to translate across various functional groups
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills, results orientation, quality orientation, proactive, with attention to detail, in a variety of situations of varying ambiguity
  • Skilled with analytical tools
  • Medical coding certification, e.g. Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Experienced and adept with Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications including MS Teams
