Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent) from an AVMA accredited university. 
  • Board certification from American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine considered valuable.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in an Animal Research Laboratory setting, of which 4 years include managing others, or 5 years relevant experience if Diplomate ACLAM. 
  • Demonstrated experience operating a GLP animal facility is required. Preference will be given to candidates that have successfully implemented a GLP program for an animal research facility previously.
  • Experience caring for & handling a wide range of animal species, including but not limited to, domestic pigs, mongrels, sheep, rats, mice and rabbits. 
  • Experience serving on an IACUC
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills involving direct reports with varying degrees of competency with regards to animal care and use.
Nice To Have
  • Experience with a range of thoracic and abdominal research models in large animals considered valuable. 
  • Must have experience with USDA inspections; FDA audits; AAAALC audits. 
  • Licensure in the State of Connecticut to practice veterinary medicine or ability/willingness to obtain this.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and be comfortable operating in a matrixed environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Multiple project planning and strategic development 
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form
  • Team building and personnel development
