Minimum  Qualification

  • Minimum of 15 years of applicable work experience in a product development & Global team environment specific to Mechatronic – SW Product development;
  • B.S. Engineering required in Mechanical/ Electronics or related field.
Must Have
  • Develops and maintains a deep technical understanding of GBU product lines and technologies;
  • Defines the engineering skill sets that best align to GBU needs and creates a staffing strategy;
  • Builds a superior team; establishes and maintains a high-performance culture;
  • Actively participate, together with the Site Leadership & Commercial organization/Marketing Department, in identifying product opportunities for the Indian market;
  • Works with surgeons on validation of product ideas;
  • Sets clear, aggressive departmental goals, expectations, and standards for performance;
  • Develops and institutionalizes world-class product engineering practices and policies;
  • Continually improves team product knowledge and technical skills;
  • Develops a departmental budget and manages expenses in line with organizational objectives;  approves departmental expenditures including capital and manpower expenses;
  • Works with HR to develops career paths for employees, provides coaching, recommends retention policies, and conducts salary planning for department staff;
  • Overseas project planning including scope definition, resource allocation, scheduling, and communication;
  • Drives successful project execution; provides leadership to teams when faced with technical challenges, critical trade-off decisions, and other project obstacles;
  • Reviews work output to ensure project objectives and quality standards are being achieved;
  • Communicates departmental status and project reports to upper management as required;
  • Ensures all policies and procedures comply with Medtronic quality system and ethical standards;
  • Demonstrated expertise in the field of product development and product engineering;
  • Experience leading a product development project from concept to commercialization;
  • Demonstrated expertise in relationship management including building new relationships;
  • Proven track record identifying and executing complex engineering projects;
  • Ability to build and lead a new department within a large, diverse MNC; includes strategic development and implementation;
  • Ability to author policies, procedures and coach new employees;
  • Experience in the areas of design for six sigma, Quality through design and Systems Engineering
  • Strong technical background with exposure to mechanical, electronics, and software engineering;
  • Experience with hardware / software quality and reliability testing;
  • Knowledgeable in IEC standards such as 60601, 62304 would be highly desirable.
  • Experience in Firmware development and must be comfortable with SW development practices and models.
  • Excellent Technology management, project management skills; demonstrated success executing complex engineering projects with diverse technical teams; management of globally dispersed teams highly-preferred;
  • The position requires a highly collaborative individual with program management critical experience and an understanding of the environment, processes and tools required for efficient and effective delivery of innovative and high-performance medical devices and health care provider solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, negotiating; managing change; goal setting; planning and organizing teamwork; ability to address difficult situations;
  • Must possess managerial courage; must be confident managing risks and making decisions that will likely have a large impact on organizational objectives;
  • Good financial acumen; strong mathematical and financial capabilities;
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large, diverse technical department with budgetary responsibility;
  • Must have leadership skills and personal strength to protect projects from unsubstantial change requests while ensuring project focus remains in place;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Eight Core Competencies:  Intellectual Horsepower, Technical Ability, Team Building, Identifying and Developing Talent, Dealing with Ambiguity/Change, Manage Diverse Relationships, Organizational Ability, Comfort Around Higher Management;Up to 15 % travel internationally and domestic

Principal Working Relationship

The individual would work closely with other cross functional teams to ensure proper communication, resource management, and skill development across departments.  Builds trusting relationships with SBU/GBU R & D leadership including regional and corporate organizations where needed; is the primary contact for the Engineering R & D function.

Nice to Haves

  • M.B.A preferred
  • Certification in Systems Engineering or PMP is desired.
  • Certified in Six sigma practices is desired.
