A DAY IN THE LIFE
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. This new role will build capability to ensure that Medtronic Diabetes’ Cloud services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer's needs and a fast rate of improvement. You will keep a watchful eye on our system capacity and performance, focus on optimizing existing systems, build infrastructure, and eliminate work through automation.
As the Director, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) for Medtronic Diabetes, you will build capability across the organization to solve problems to enable a consistent and positive customer experience and business growth. You will apply strong engineering thought leadership and deep knowledge of infrastructure and software development to drive scalable and highly reliable software systems for Medtronic Diabetes digital platforms.
Job Responsibilities
- Build SRE capability across the Medtronic Diabetes software engineering organization to deliver highly reliant apps and a positive customer experience. Build team over time and integrate SRE into product development process.
- Work cross-functionally in partnership with Software Development teams to guide product development teams to build reliable and durable software systems.
- Partner with architects, developers, DevOps and RunOps engineers to ensure that Medtronic Diabetes cloud services have reliability and uptime appropriate to users’ needs and a fast rate of improvement while managing capacity and performance.
- Manage, innovate, and create programs, new software, and analytics that drive improvements to the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Medtronic Diabetes digital platforms.
- Drive end-to-end availability and performance of key services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Automate response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
- Build overall strategy for Medtronic Diabetes SRE capabilities. Inspire innovation and new thinking to maximize long-term product feature velocity while meeting reliability targets.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or related discipline and a minimum of 15 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience
- Breadth and Depth in Site Reliability Engineering. 5+ years experience in Released Product Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Software Engineering.
Nice to Have:
- Master’s degree in in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- Demonstrated organization leadership experience. Demonstrated success influencing and building SRE capability across a matrix organization
- Experience with system design, algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design, or in Unix/Linux systems, IP networking, performance, and application issues.
- Experience with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems, and storage.
This position is in the greater Los Angeles area, with relocation available to qualified candidates. We may be open to candidates based elsewhere in the US who are open to regular travel to our facilities.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
Executive Level Roles: Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
